> 第一场球赛是在数周后的一个星期六。练球的情况大半很糟糕，最后布莱恩教练想出了安排我的法子，这法子跟费拉斯教练在高中时想的差不多。他们索性把球交给我，让我跑。那天我跑得很好，四次达阵，我们以三十五比三痛宰佐治亚大学，大家轮流拍我的背，拍得我背痛。我清洗之后打电话给我妈，她已经听了收音机转播，高兴得快爆炸了！那天晚上大家都去参加派对什么的，却没有人邀请我，所以我就回了地下室。我在地下室待了一阵子，听到楼上传来音乐声，那声音真美妙，我也不知道为什么，总之我就上楼看看是什么音乐。

> 有个家伙，布巴，坐在他房间里吹口琴。他在练球时弄伤了脚，无法出赛，所以也没地方可去。他让我坐在一张床上听他吹，我们没有交谈也没做什么，就这么一人坐一张床，他吹他的口琴。过了大约一个小时，我问他可不可以让我试试，他说：“好啊。”我浑然不知这件事将完全改变我的人生。

> The first football game was on a Saturday a few weeks later. Most of the time practice had been pretty bad, till Coach Bryant figgered out what to do with me, which was about what Coach Fellers had done at highschool. They just give me the ball and let me run. I run good that day, and score four touchdowns, and we whip the University of Georgia 35 to 3 and everybody slapping me on the back till it hurt. After I get cleaned up I phoned my mama and she done listened to the game over the radio and is so happy she can bust! That night, everybody going to parties and shit, but nobody asked me to any, so I go on down to the basement. I'm there a while when I hear this kind of music coming from someplace upstairs and it's real pretty-like, and, I don't know why, but I went on up there to find out what it was.

> There was this guy, Bubba, setting in his room playing a mouth organ. He'd broke his foot in practice and couldn't play and didn't have nowhere to go either. He let me set on a cot and listen to him, we didn't talk or nothing, he just settin on one cot and me on the other, and he's playing his harmonica. And after about a hour I asked him if I could try it and he says, "Okay." Little did I know that it would change my life forever.
